Anna Marie Fagerlie ,passed away peacefully at home on Friday September 21, 2018 at Charter House in Rochester at the age of 102..

A burial service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clarkfield Lutheran  Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, Minnesota.

She was born May 24, 1916 to Ingebret and Annie (Afdem) Fagerlie in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Anna graduated from the Clarkfield High School in 1934. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University in 1949, a Master of Arts degree in 1955, and a Doctor of Education degree in 1959 from Colorado State University; Greeley, Colorado.

She taught for a number of years in elementary schools in Minnesota and Iowa. Anna was a member of the faculty at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana from 1955 to 1957, Colorado State University from 1958 to 1960, and Western Illinois University from 1960 to 1983 where she retired with the rank of Professor of Elementary Education.

Anna was the author of many articles published in professional journals and co-author of an English textbook series for the elementary grades published by the Houghton Mifflin Company.

She was a member of many professional organizations and learned societies. She also served as a member of visitation teams for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. She was listed in several “Who’s Who” biographical directories of distinction.

Anna moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 1991 where she spent many happy years as a resident of Charter House. Her love of learning and interest in current events carried throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Julian, Conrad (& wife Laurine), Valdemar, Fritjof (& wife Vicki); sisters Doris Halvorson, Dorothy Hopper, Margaret Wold; niece Karen Graves (& husband Steve) and nephews Tom Hopper, John Hopper, and Clifford “Kip” Wold.

She is survived by nieces Mary Jo Leindecker (Bill), Cleo Current (Fred), Thekla Fagerlie-Madsen (Bob), Dorothy Ann Cullen, nephews William “Duke” Hopper and Fred Halverson, sister-in-law Patricia Fagerlie Fabriz; and many great nieces and nephews.

Anna will be remembered for her generous nature, quick wit, keen intelligence, and incredible spirit.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
