Dorothy Helen Coubal

Dorothy Coubal, formerly of Graceville, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Clarkfield Lutheran Church in Clarkfield with Rev. Marie Eckberg and Rev. Deborah Nissen officiating.  Visitation will be held at Clarkfield Lutheran from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on the day of the service.  Interment will be at Clarkfield City Cemetery.

Dorothy Helen Kraakaas was born July 26, 1930 in Montevideo, MN to Johnnie and Phyllis (Aitichison) Kraakaas.  Dorothy was baptized at Stony Run Lutheran Church. She had two sisters Dagny and Gwen.  Dorothy attended District 22 until 8th grade and then went to school in Granite Falls.  She graduated from Granite Falls in 1948 and worked at Control Data in Redwood Falls, MN.  She was also active on city council in North Redwood.

Dorothy married Joseph J. Coubal on May 21, 1977 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.  Dorothy inherited Joe’s 8 kids and in-laws with the marriage.  She was a very kind and loving step-mother and a wonderful grandma to all of the grandkids.

Dorothy loved to bake and would make buns and donuts for all of the family gatherings.  She also crocheted and made many quilts.  In 1984 Joe and Dorothy moved to Ortonville and enjoyed many years living on Big Stone lake.  She was active in the Legion Auxiliary and Homemakers Club.  She liked to fish off the dock and caught her biggest fish the one time she fished from the boat.  She preferred to spend time entertaining the grandkids.  In 2004 they moved to Graceville, MN where she was active in the senior citizens.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Barbara (Harold) Larson, Mary Jo Haugerud, Bonnie (Mike) McCarthy, Debbie (Dave) Hedin, and Joey (Elaine) Coubal; son-in-law, Kenny Leenerts; sister, Gwen (Ross) Huismann; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; 3 nieces; and 4 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Phyllis Kraakaas; husband, Joseph J. Coubal; sons, Michael and Louie Coubal; daughter, Gerry Leenerts; son-in-law, Glen Haugerud;  daughter-in-law, Donna Coubal; grandson, Joseph Leenerts; great granddaughter, Eden Hedin; and sister, Dagny Minsaas.
